Usually, lottery picks are the ones who win the NBA Rookie of the Year award. However, we shouldn’t sleep on the middle to late-round picks who can break the NBA ROY predictions. When given the opportunity, they can thrive and carve a role within their teams.

Here are the NBA Rookie of the Year betting odds.

Paolo Banchero, +200

The NBA Rookie of the Year odds 2023 have Paolo Banchero as the favorite to win the award. After all, he was one of the best players in the NCAA last season, averaging 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists on 48% shooting. At 6’10”, he can put the ball on the floor, shoot it from behind the arc, and make plays for his teammates.

Orlando has a lot of talented players on the roster. Whether or not they are going to contend for the playoffs this season remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, Banchero will get all the minutes that he can handle and produce at an NBA level. If he wins the ROY award, he would be the first Magic player to do it since Mike Miller in 2000-01 season.

Keegan Murray, +450

Keegan Murray is one of the top NBA Rookie of the Year candidates currently. He had an outstanding campaign in college where he averaged 23.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game on 55% shooting. Even though he’s not flashy as a player, he shoots the ball with great efficiency and makes the right decisions on the floor.

Murray should get a high workload since the Kings are quite thin at the forward spot. He has earned his minutes after a stellar Summer League (was named the Summer League MVP) and preseason performance. Given Murray’s plug-and-play game, expect his name to remain at the top of the NBA ROY predictions.

Jabari Smith, +550

At 6’10”, Jabari Smith is an interesting prospect due to his perimeter game and defensive potential. He’s arguably the best shooting big in the draft, averaging 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.3 threes per game, on 43% shooting on the field in the NCAA.

Due to his shooting and upside, there’s no doubt that Smith’s game will translate in the NBA. In one preseason game, Smith sank five threes and ended up with 21 points and 8 rebounds in 21 minutes. The Rockets definitely loved what they saw from Smith so far and will give him more minutes throughout the season.

Jaden Ivey, +800

Jaden Ivey is one of the most electrifying rookies in the 2022 NBA Draft due to his Ja Morant-esque game. In college, Ivey averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game on 46% shooting.

In four preseason games, Ivey struggled and averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game on 34% shooting from the field and 14% from three. There’s no reason to think that he will not find his groove soon. After all, most scoring guards struggle in the first few games as they adjust to NBA speed.

Detroit is projected to have another losing season in the Eastern Conference betting. Thus, expect Ivey to get a lot of minutes next to Cunningham.

Bennedict Mathurin, +800

Bennedict Mathurin‘s stock continues to rise in the NBA Rookie of the Year odds 2023 after going on a tear in the preseason. He averaged 19 points and 4 rebounds in just 24 minutes per game. These numbers are similar to his college stats where he averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds per game on 45% shooting.

Indiana is quite loaded at the shooting guard spot with Chris Duarte and Buddy Hield on the depth chart. However, there have been growing rumors that Hield might get traded soon. The Pacers will certainly find a way to get him more minutes after his recent performances.

Tari Eason, +2500

After a stellar preseason performance, we saw Tari Eason‘s name rise in the NBA Rookie of the Year odds 2022-23. In four preseason games, Eason averaged 17.6 points and 9 rebounds per game on 64% shooting. Two of these games are double-double efforts.

Eason could end up as a steal of the draft at the 17th pick. The Rockets could use someone who can shoot the ball well, hustle for offensive rebounds, and defend opposing wings. Once the minutes start increasing, expect Eason’s name to continue rising in the NBA ROY ladder. After all, there’s no doubt that he can produce at an NBA level.

Best bet for 2022-23 NBA Rookie of the Year

Keegan Murray

Currently at +450, this is outstanding value given Keegan Murray’s caliber. His efficient game allows him to fit in whatever rotation Sacramento will run. He can shoot it well from beyond the arc, score in the low post, run in transition, and crash the offensive glass.

Murray proved that his game can seamlessly fit in the NBA. In the Summer League, Murray was crowned as the MVP where he averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 threes per game on 50% shooting throughout seven games.

In two preseason contests, Murray was also effective and averaged 16 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 threes per game on 70% shooting. He has done this in just 22 minutes per game.

The Kings will need to start him and give him starter minutes if they want to make the playoffs. After all, his game fits perfectly next to De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Expect Murray’s game to get better as the season progresses.
